Q. What is a Hardscape?

A. Hardscapes are areas such as patios, sidewalks, walls, and any other man-made structures within a landscape. A hardscape can be both functional, and aesthetic, bringing depth and structure to any outdoor space.

Q. What is Polymeric Sand?

A. Polymeric sand is a granular material placed between the joints or seams in brick pavers or stone in patios, walkways and driveways. It's primary function is to improve the interlock and therefore the durability and stability of a paved surface.

Q. What is Base Material for my project made of?

A. The base material should be made of crushed stone. The crushed stones should have varying sized particles and sharp edges to enable better compaction. The better your base compacts together, the flatter your paved surface will be.

Q. What is Geotextile?

A. Geotextile is also referred to as filter fabric. It is made of plastic threads, which allow water to pass through, while protecting your base and soil. It stops soil from being mixed into your base material and potentially loosening it, which will weaken the base and hence create movement in your paver surface.

Q. Can I Use Pavers around the Pool?

A. Yes. Pavers are very appropriate for around pool areas, for they provide a slip resistant surface, making it a safer environment. The moisture and water is soaked up by the sand in the joints, rather than being left to create a slippery surface. Pavers also provide a cooler surface to walk on than concrete.

Q. Can I Use Pavers Over Existing Concrete?

A. Yes, but you may need a step if lying directly on top of a concrete slab. It is recommended that you obtain a quote for the removal of concrete slabs, for it may not be too expensive.

Q. How Long Do Pavers Last?

A. You will find that many of the larger paver manufacturers offer a lifetime warranty. However, pavers can be easily repaired and replaced, making them very durable.

Q. Will My Pavers Move or Shift?

A. To ensure that your pavers do not move or shift you myst use a good edge restraint. If you live in a hotter region, be sure to use a concrete edge restraint, rather than a plastic type, which may buckle under extreme heat.

Q. Should I Seal My Pavers?

A. Sealing your pavers is not necessary, it is however recommended. The reasons for this are that a sealed paver surface is much easier to clean, or may even prevent staining. Also, sealing will enhance and maintain your brightly colored pavers. Lastly, sealing your pavers will prevent the growth of weeds in between your joints.

Q. What is Efflorescence?

A. Efflorescence is the whitish haze that may appear on your pavers after a period of time. It is natural and will not damage or affect your pavers. It is produced by the ingredients and materials used to install pavers.

Q. Can I Remove Efflorescence?

A. Efflorescence will eventually go away, because it is a natural occurring haze, however, you can also obtain a cleaning solution which is specially designed for the removal of efflorescence.

Q. Will Weeds Grow Between the Joints of My Pavers?

A. By ensuring that your joints are completely filled up with sand, this will help prevent the amount of weed seeds that fall between the joints. You can also seal your pavers, which will coat the joints, making it impossible for weeds to grow.

Q. What Do I Do If My Pavers Are Stained?

A. There are a number of different cleaning solutions available on the market. Whether it is an oil stain, grease and grime, rust, moss and algae, or rubber marks, there is a product suitable for all stains.

Q. What Happens If My Pavers Are Chipped or Damaged?

A. The great thing about pavers is that they are easy to repair. They can be pried out with the use of two screwdrivers, and replaced with new ones. This makes pavers a very cost efficient product, for there are no real high costs involved in repairing.

Q. What About Snow Removal?

A. It is recommended that you use rubber edged plows, rather than sharp edged objects, which may damage your pavers. You can also try some of the ice-melting products available on the market; they are safe and effective for use on pavers.
